RP Post: Learning to Dribble!
The basketball was heavy and round, too big for Cassidy’s hands, but she held it close anyway. The court outside the Portofino Community Center was warm under her feet, the sun high and bright in the sky. Palm trees swayed nearby, their shadows falling in long stripes across the pavement like they were trying to help keep things cool.
Sparrow was showing her how to dribble. Not like a baby dribbles, he said, grinning. This kind of dribble meant bouncing the ball again and again, keeping it close, learning the rhythm. Cassidy squinted down at the ball, her tongue poking out just a little as she tried to get it right. Sometimes it bounced too far. Sometimes it didn’t bounce at all. But sometimes, just sometimes, it made the perfect thump against the ground.
She couldn’t reach the basket yet, not without Sparrow lifting her up.
But one day?
She was gonna dribble all the way down the court, turn around, and beat him fair and square.
