Interior: A Whisper of Lilac

This client had a clear love for clean lines, smooth wood tones, and quiet elegance. But she also wanted to reflect where she came from—India—without compromising her minimalist, modern sensibility. It was a delicate line to walk. Too much, and the room wouldn’t feel like her. Too little, and it might feel like nothing at all.

So we started with a simple question: What’s your favorite color?
Her answer: “Lilac, but like, soft lilac. A whisper of lilac.”

That whisper became our anchor.

We worked with her favorite materials first. The dining table stayed center stage, a natural unpainted wood, the chairs tall-backed and upholstered in crisp ivory. To one side, I added an accent cabinet—bohemian in structure, with carved wood fronts—but toned down to a single monochromatic wood finish, so it stood out just enough while blending with the overall calm of the room. It matched the wood of the table and the legs of her chairs like it was always meant to be there.

Soft white curtains were hung from a wooden rod, with a delicate grid of cut-out squares letting in speckles of light throughout the day. They added pattern without weight, movement without clutter.

Then came the lilac. Not bold. Not loud. Just a single painted panel above the accent cabinet, the softest shade, carefully chosen from my color guides to match the exact vision in her head. Against it, three simple black and white sketches—one continuous image of a resting tiger, split across three frames. Bold in subject. Quiet in execution. A subtle, reverent nod to her heritage.

The cabinet’s top was layered with lacquered white vases, natural wood accents, and warm-toned greenery to tie it all together.

Sometimes, honoring where you come from isn’t about going big. It’s about creating space where your story can quietly breathe, where the things that matter most are given room to shine in their own gentle way.
