Interior: Blobby, Bold, and Beautiful

Every now and then, a client walks in with a vision so full of energy and freshness that it’s like opening a window and letting the spring air rush through the house. That’s exactly what happened here.
She came to me with a handful of TikTok screenshots and a sparkle in her eye. “I want something that looks new. Really new. Soft shapes. Bold colors. Like retro, but not… like, way cleaner.” And I knew—this wasn’t a project about nostalgia. It was about now.
We began with the couch. An ivory L-shape that curved like a wave—smooth, soft, and, well… blobby (which quickly became our favorite design word). No sharp corners anywhere, just rounded edges and cloudlike silhouettes. A muted mustard throw pillow added just enough punch without overwhelming the space, and below it all, the rug might just be my favorite detail: a yellow shag daisy with a soft white center. It felt straight out of a 2002 dream, and somehow, it worked perfectly.
The coffee table was sculptural but still very blobby. On top, I styled a small bouquet of pink blooms and a curated cluster of candles in rich tones—deep teal, soft pink, cheerful orange, and clean white.
To help the windows blend into this modern moment, we hung thick ivory curtains—simple, chic, and heavy enough to soften the whole room. And then came the bookshelf. Originally plain and square, we reshaped it with arched cutouts, painted it warm pink, and lined the back panels with a checkered pattern in ivory and mustard yellow. A nod to trends, but with a twist of personality. The shelves themselves held a joyful mix of color and shape: books, blob-like pots, oddball frames, and even a statue of a bulldog that somehow looked right at home.
She told me this was the first time a room had ever felt like her. We both left thrilled.
Trends may come and go, but joy like this? It always finds a place to stay.
